Image Info Evening Express reporters photographed a crew from the engineering firm Boyce and Rutledge moving a new diesel engine for the tugboat Pejepscot on March 2, 1927.
Show Details
After stripping the motor of every detachable part, including the flywheel, the 360 horsepower engine still weighed 30 tons.
The newspaper described the process as a "thrilling engineering feat." Using special factory apparatus, the crew attached hoisting gear to the engine. As they swung the motor into place, the boom, which measured more than a foot thick, "bent like a bow."
