Image Info

Arthur Schuh photographed a group of U.S. Navy band members disembarking from a small pier in Portland or another part of the naval base in Casco Bay. They carry brass instruments, drums, and other band equipment. A professional photographer and entrepreneur, Schuh served as a Lieutenant (Junior Grade) in the U.S. Navy Reserve during World War II. While stationed in Portland, he captured striking images of the city’s military and civilian life.
