Hunting lodges in northern Quebec, in the Adirondacks, and remote areas of Maine became popular retreats for wealthy Americans in the late nineteenth century. Libby's Sporting Camps appear to have been part of this trend, though locals may have also used the lodge. Efforts to identify the Libby who owned the property or led hunting parties through newspapers and genealogical records have thus far proven unsuccessful.

The card is undated. However, a card from the same collection, also depicting Lincoln and bearing the same font, is postmarked 1911. That card (MMN item 148623) was printed in Germany for the W. A. Brown Company of Lincoln.
