The "Oaklands" is built of granite with buttresses and octagonal turret motifs at the corners. It has an irregular L-shaped floor plan with a central hall and is a noted early Gothic Revival mansion. It was built in 1835-37 for Robert Hallowell Gardiner. Richard Upjohn was the architect.
