A 19th century extract from John Mitchell's "A map of the British and French dominions in North America" first issued in 1755. This particular extract was engraved by William J. Stone (1798-1865) dating the piece to his career, likely between 1830 and 1860. Stone is listed as the "sculpsit," a term for an engraver, typically one working with graphics created by another artist or cartographer.

The map references several Indigenous Nations including "Passamacadics" or Passmaquoddy, Penobscots, Mi'kmaq, and "Abnakie" or Abenaki, as well as Maine town names and other settler-colonialist designations, like "French Acadia." This map is part of a larger archive, the Thomas Barclay collection (Coll. 26).
