From June 29 to July 4, over a dozen governors from across the country and their families came to Maine to attend the seventeenth annual governors convention held at the Poland Springs House.

Nellie Ross's late spouse, William Ross, was the governor of Wyoming from 1923-1924. He died unexpectedly due to complications after a surgery. Nelli ran for the governorship afterward and won in 1925.
