A large group of "Fantastics" or "Horribles" pose at Memorial Hall in Belfast prior to marching in a Fourth of July parade. The group has not yet put on their masks.

Memorial Hall was the second floor meeting space used by the Thomas H. Marshall Post, No. 42, Grand Army of the Republic, a Civil War veteran's group. A portrait of Col. T. H. Marshall hangs to the left and a portrait of Gen. Joshua Chamberlain, to the right.

In 1890, the G.A.R. Post erected the building and used the second floor for meetings, reunions and veteran's assistance. The rest of the building was rented to the City of Belfast for municipal offices.
