Alice Jagger came to Sanford as a child in the early 1880s with her parients, Uriah and Martha Jagger. Before the close of the 19th century, she opened a millinery shop while her younger brothers, Sam and Fred, went into business manufacturing yarn as Jagger Brothers.

She ran the shop for about 20 years and was noted for the elegant hats she fashioned herself. She moved to California in the early 1920s.

The shop was on the east side of School Street in the first building after the corner of Washington Street.
