In anticipation of the end of the War, local businessmen George Pullen and Eugene Bickford began organizing a parade for the residents of Monson to celebrate. The end of the war was on August 14th and on the 15th the residents of Monson held a parade, church ceremonies, street dances, and burned Emperor Hirohito in effigy.

This photograph shows a portion of the parade as it processed down Main Street with the Town Hall and former Grand Army of the Republic Hall in the background. In the parade was Veteran Sgt. Robert Greenleaf who served in the Air Force and had recently returned to Monson after being a Prisoner of War for 14 months.
