Image Info

During the winter of 1893, boom piers were constructed on the Androscoggin River in Rumford. Boom piers were constructed to separate logs that were being floated downriver to go to the different mills. The bottom of the pier sits on the bottom of the river.

The workers are using a steam-operated derrick to lift stones up to be dumped into the interior of the Pier.
