Without the fast moving water of the Rumford Falls, and the foresight of Hugh J. Chisholm, the industrial papermaking town of Rumford would never have been existed.

The dam harnessed the water power to enable the building of large paper mills. The electricity produced by the large turbines allowed the Rumford area to become a modern city.

This photo was taken near the reflection pool below the Rumford Falls. The high bridge in the distance spans the Androscoggin River above the falls. It leads to the South Rumford area.
