Image Info

The Webhannet Post Office was established as a summer post office in Wells in 1893 at the corner of Eldridge Road and Webhannet Drive. The office was moved to the Crescent Beach location pictured here in the 1920s. It became known as the Webhannet Rur. Sta. Wells in the 1960s.

The Marguerite hotel stood next to the post office. The hotel was named for Marguerite Forbes, who founded other hotels in the area with her family. The building hotel has changed names and ownership numerous times over its history and has also been known as Driftwinds and Ocean View. It was razed in 1965.

The caption reads, "Post Office and The Marguerite, Wells Beach, Maine."

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
