Lake Wesserunsett is a tourist and vacation destination in Madison. Since the 1600s the Kennebec Indian Tribe set up regular camp sites along the lake. Since then there spelling of Wesserunsett has seen many variations and there were even two occasions where the name of the Lake was changed completely. In 1912, Wesserunsett was adopted by the Maine State Legislature as the official name and spelling.

Lake Wasserunsett is also home to the historic Lakewood Theater.

the The caption reads, "Wesserunsett Lake, Lakewood, Skowhegan, Me." This postcard was created as part of the Maine vacation series printed by the Tichnor Brothers printing company. The series was printed from about 1930-1945 and endeavored to bolster Maine tourism.
