Image Info

Newport’s Main Street Bridge spanned the East Branch Sebasticook River, part of the Kennebec River watershed. During the 19th century, the area around the bridge was a center of industry, including the state’s largest tannery on Elm Street and businesses such as carriage shops and Arthur G. Hanson’s hardware store.

The caption reads, "The bridge, Newport, Maine."

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1930-1945.
