Image Info

The Kennebunk/Kennebunkport area has several beaches open to the public including Kennebunk Beach (Mother's Beach), Gooch's Beach, Middle Beach, Colony Beach, Goose Rocks Beach, and Cleaves Cove Beach. This image of Gooch's Beach shows the sprawling bath house at the end of SeaGrass Lane in Kennebunk. Caption reads: "Bathhouse and Bathing Beach at Kennebunkport, Maine, ca. 1938."

A Tichnor Brothers tourist postcard promoting the beaches of Kennebunkport.

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938 as part of their Maine series. These, and other postcards, by the Tichnor Brothers Company are officially known as the Tichnor Gloss Series because the photographs were notoriously retouched on such a level that does not allow the postcards to be classified as photographs or paintings. The caption reads, "Bath house and bathing beach, Kennebunkport, Maine."
