The Black House was once home to three generations of the Black family. The historic house is now part of Woodlawn, a 180-acre historic estate located a quarter mile from downtown Ellsworth, Maine. Woodlawn includes the historic museum, community and formal gardens and its public part with walking trails.

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938.
