Portland architect John Calvin Stevens made this drawing showing how the Free Street Baptist Church in Portland looked, after the first remodeling in 1836. "The pen and ink sketch of the church, forming the frontispiece, was made from an outline engraving found upon an old chart of the city." Published in "Free Street Baptist Church Semi-Centennial. 1836-1886."

The building served as a meeting place for the Baptist community for many years.

In 1926, Stevens designed the renovation of the building to become the Portland Chamber of Commerce.

In 1991, it became the home of the Children's Museum of Maine.
