Image Info

This handsome hotel had accommodation for one hundred guests and was opened seasonally from June to September at Bidddeford Pool. It was built in the late 1800s. This stretch of land of Biddeford Pool jutted out into the ocean on the west side of the Saco River. It was eight miles from the city of Biddeford, famous for its textile mills.

The hotel changed hands and became the Evans Hotel until 1948 when it was purchased by the Sisters of the Congregation of the Presentation of Mary, and became Marie Joseph Academy, a young women's boarding school. In 1978 the school became the Marie Joseph Retreat Center.
