The Della Collins replaced the Clarian in 1879 as the shuttle between Augusta, Hallowell and the Boston steamer in Gardiner. Named after Captain Collins's daughter, the little steamer had a very shallow draft. This made her difficult to maneuver in the Kennebec River current, but locals claimed she could sail over a dew covered field as well as in the river. The Della Collins was replaced by the new steamer City of Augusta in 1905.Show Details
