A portion of land lying to the north of Country Road between Dwight and Erin/Cemetery Streets was donated to the Town of Thomaston by General Henry and Lucy Knox in 1802.

In 1838 the town obtained more property from landowner Sullivan Dwight for Dwight Street and for an extension to the burial ground. In response to an increased demand for additional land, in 1848 more land was obtained from Roland Jacobs, Jr. and Sullivan Dwight.

[Note: Although the view is listed as Cypress Avenue, today's cemetery plan lists the lanes by number.]
