This house was built ca. 1800 by Captain Nathaniel Scamman and his wife, Sarah Jordan (Col. Tristram Jordan's daughter) on Main Street, just above Thornton Academy. Edith Scamman (1882-1967), noted botanist, bequeathed the house to Thornton Academy and it was eventually demolished.
