In 1818, Delphos Turner (1800-1856) crafted this hand pieced and embroidered quilt at the age of 18. The embroidered center block states “This needle work of mine doth tell what is my name and ‘whare’ I dwell. Delphos Turner of Palermo Born July 1 in the year of 1800”. Fifteen single patch blocks are set diagonally, while half square triangles edge the top, sides, and bottom. Each patch is a combination of cotton and wool, hand embroidered with a variety of stylized leaf and floral designs. The cut corners allow the quilt to fit a poster bed. The large front drop kept out drafts in houses without central heating.

Turner reportedly spun, wove, and dyed the cloth used for this quilt.
