The Telegraph Block was built by E. W. and George I. Robinson in 1857 on the south side of County Road (now Main Street) in which George I. Robinson established a drugstore trade and a telegrapher’s office. E. Robinson established a tailor business. The telegraph wires were brought to Thomaston in 1848 by the influence of town resident and shipbuilder Edward O’Brien, who was one of the first directors of the Maine Telegraph Company.

The building was destroyed by the devastating fire of 1915, which burned the Watts Block on the east and the Knox Hotel and stable to the west, where the fire started. A new Watts Block was immediately rebuilt on the site.
