Lime burners in Rockland. The lime industry fueled Rockland and surrounding areas for many years. Limestone was processed in large kilns to create lime, which is used in building materials and fertilizer.

The first lime kiln in the Rockland area was built in 1733 and by 1828, there were 60 lime kilns in the are from Thomaston to Lincolnville.
