Image Info

The airplane owned by Frances Wilson Grayson, called The Dawn, a Sikorski Amphibian, landing on the water coming toward the beach at Old Orchard.

The plane was in Old Orchard to begin preparations for an upcoming Atlantic hop. It arrived October 10, 1927. Bad weather and engine problems prevented the plane from making the attempt out of Old Orchard.

Instead, the plane took off on Christmas Eve from Curtiss Field in New York and was never seen again.
