American aviators who were to pilot Green Flash on a transatlantic hop and French fliers who were to attempt the flight in Yellow Bird meet at Old Orchard Beach.

The two planes planned to take off together in the first race across Atlantic in history of aviation.

The French plane completed the flight; the American plan crashed during a trial flight and was unable to participate in the race.
