President Abraham Lincoln sat in this chair to pose for Leonard W. Volk, sculptor. In 1860 in Chicago, Lincoln posed for him so he could create a life mask and bust of the president. This chair was given to the Historical Society by Volk's son, Douglas, a portrait painter who had a studio in Fryeburg.
