Image Info John H. Allen (1866-1953), graduated from Portland High School in 1885, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, then studied medicine in Berlin, Germany.

He was a nose and throat surgeon at Maine General Hospital for over three decades.
Dr. Allen was also an accomplished oil painter, and he was honored with a one-man show at the Portland Society of Art in 1943.
