The Portland Company built a No. 3 steam engine for the City of Portland. It cost $3,618 and weighed 6,800 pounds.

It was pulled by two horses instead of the commonly seen three-horse hitch used on larger steam engines in other cities.

The engine is seen in front of the Brackett Street firehouse.
