Riverton Park in Portland was opened in the summer of 1896. The park was owned and operated by the Portland Street Railroad Company and covered approximately 40 acres on the banks of the Presumpscot River.

The main attraction at the Park was the Casino. This large building boasted parlors, a dining hall, a reception room (also called the Red Room) as well as smoking, reading, and card rooms. In the card rooms, visitors played chess, checkers and dominos.
