Image Info

Vic Holaway’s float in the Houlton 4th of July Parade in 1935. Holaway ran a grocery and butcher shop on the corner of Maine and Mechanic streets. The building in the background was Starkey’s Slaughter House, located on the corner of Foxtron Road and Pleasant Street.

Winn Bither bought the slaughter house from Starkey. After Bither’s death, it was bought by Henry Henderson and his son Nat. The slaughter house later burned.
