The Amaragansett was built in Rockland for C.A. Stickler and Brothers in 1912.

It was a fishing trawler of 169 feet in length overall, and was 390 gross tons in weight.

Fishing steamers were sometimes called "pogy" boats, as they were built to fish for menhaden, also called pogies.
