PFC Dawson H. Carney from Pennsylvania was stationed in North Yarmouth with the Second Battalion of the 366th Infantry during World War II. Carney enlisted June 9, 1941 and was discharged June 17, 1943.

The 366th Infantry was a group of Black soldiers sent to Maine to guard railroad bridges that provided a connection to Canada. In case Germans during World War II bombed ports, the country needed a supply route and the Grand Trunk rail lines provided that alternative.
