Florentino Lopez sat in a buggy hooked up to Popeye, a steer that belonged to Elwood Bearce.

Lopez was part of a segregated army unit assigned to guard railroad bridges that connected Maine and Canada during World War II. Lopez was stationed in North Yarmouth and lived near the Atkins farm, where this photo was taken.
