Charles and Julia West posed in front of their home on 108 Main Street which was lost in the townwide fire of 1902.

Charles C. West (1820-1903), author of Sketches of Camp Life in the Wilds of the Aroostook Woods, Aroostook County, Maine, owned a livery stable in Houlton, was a taxidermist, and in later years, a woodsman and hunting and fishing guide.

Charles was often pictured in local photographer, E. B. White's photos, along with
Walter Mansur. All three were avid woodsmen who enjoyed hunting and fishing in northern Maine.
