This dark brown delaine (any high-grade woolen or worsted fabric) dress is an example of everyday prints, or 'ordinary' dresses from the mid-nineteenth century. Unlike higher end or special occasion garments, which are worn less often or cared for over time, It is less common for historic everyday wear to survive.

The fabric is printed with a floral motif of rust, maroon and white blossoms, with green and tan leaves. Black silk velvet trim embellishes the cross-over front closure and bell shaped sleeves. The full gathered circular skirt includes a pocket near the center front. While its original owner is unknown,the dress was once part of the Victoria Mansion historic costume collection.
