The Portland Press Herald and the Portland Evening Express often featured school children engaged in seasonal activities. On Wednesday, November 25, 1936 the Evening Express ran a collage of students in Thanksgiving plays across the city.

The caption for this photograph reads: "Ready, aim, fire! Squanto the Indian, portrayed by David Spector, is ready to catch the bird when it falls for Leslie Hybets, the pilgrim, can't miss in his belief. They are pupils of the Shailer School and both are appearing in a Thanksgiving play."
