John Dunn was an accomplished fly fisherman and skilled amateur photographer from Pennsylvania who visited the Moosehead Lake region, especially Ragged Lake, for a month or more each summer at the end of the nineteenth century.

Dunn's fly-fishing outfit consisted of fine quality bamboo rod and reel, loaded with silk fly line and a hand-tied fly.
