Lewiston's first City Hall was dedicated in 1872. It had 80 rooms, including the police department, prison, library and post office. The main meeting hall could hold over 2000 people. On January 7, 1890 the building burned. It was a total loss.

A smaller City Hall, shown here, was constructed beginning on October 1, 1890, and was dedicated on May 19, 1892.

The building gained National Historic Register status in 1976 and continues to serve as Lewiston's City Hall.

The building under construction at the right is the original public library, built in 1902.
