Image Info

This is a view of Gay's Wharf below Main Street in the North End of Rockland. The wood in the foreground is unloaded from the schooners and ready to feed the fire of Gay's lime kiln.

David Gay was the first lime manufacturer to ship processed lime to New York. The lime sheds and kilns across the harbor on Crockett's Point belong to the Cobb Lime Co.
