Image Info This old wood-frame block at Main and Alfred streets in Biddeford was built about 1849 or 1850, and was also called the Lyman Block.
Show Details
In 1911 the city wished to widen Main Street and condemned the block as it encroached on the new street line. It was then torn down (this image shows that the work of demolition had started on the roof) and was replaced at once by a brick building.
At the same time the corner of Alfred and Main Streets was rounded.
The building visible at the extreme right was the Staples Block, which was built in 1896.
