Valley Farm, one of two farms at Pownal State School in New Gloucester, helped provide beef, milk, pork, poultry and vegetables to the facility for the developmentally disabled.

Some residents did farm work.

A 1959 report by Superintendent Peter Bowman noted, "Peaceful farming for the purpose of keeping adult retardates busy (and institutionalized) has been replaced by a modern program . . ."

Valley Farm closed in 1967.
