Gruener's partner, Raymond Stanley (not visible in photo) records that they lost the match.

Up on the hillside beyond the tennis courts is a large cottage (left) which belonged to the Stanley family. Called "Sunny Haven," it was built in 1908 and destroyed in a row fire in 1932.
