A postcard of the Unitarian Church on the corner of Oak Street and Main Street in Ellsworth, as it looked during the 1940s. The church was constructed in the new Gothic or Victorian style by Messrs I. & O. W. Kent of Ellsworth, following the plans of the architect S. S. Woodcock of Boston. Construction on the church was completed in the summer of 1867 with a dedication ceremony on August 28th of that same year. The interior decorations were predominantly chestnut wood trimmed with black walnut. The church was also decorated with a fresco by Butler, of Boston, and stained glass windows and could seat a congregation of five hundred.

The church served the community of Ellsworth for one hundred and five years until it was sold to the chain restaurant Dunkin' Donuts on June 1, 1971. The church's last service was held on June 13, 1971.

Dunkin' Donuts demolished the church to erect their restaurant, which was in turn demolished around 2001. On the site today (2013) is the S.K. Whiting Park.
