"New Truths, New Treasures shall our Fires unfold and change and Iron age to one of Gold," proclaims a linen banner created for the Machinists, Cutlers, Coppersmiths, Brass Founders, and Iron Founders trades section of the Maine Charitable Mechanic Association.

The Portland organization of skilled trades groups created the banners for a parade through the streets of Portland held on Oct. 8, 1841.

The reverse of the banner reads "Moulded from Patterns of Goodness & Truth; the Casts of our Character need neither Soldering nor Brazing."

William Capen Jr., a member of the Charitable Mechanic group, painted the banner.
