Charles A. Alexander (1828-1888), Maine's leading mid 19th century architect, designed Bramhall for businessman John Bundy Brown (1805-1881) in the Italian villa style.

The signature "C.H." probably refers to Charles Howe, a civil engineer who may have worked in Alexander's office.

The house included a large library and private picture gallery.

The house was demolished in 1915.
