Joseph Patri, left, and G.E. Demers of Le Frontenac Snowshoe Club of Québec stopped in Portland on Jan. 27, 1927.

The two snowshoers were on their way to the International Snowshoe Convention in Manchester, New Hampshire -- a 437-mile trek from home.

A few snowshoe club members often undertook long treks on snowshoes to attend the annual international conventions.
