This colored postcard of the Hamlin homestead has the number "5058" printed in red in the corner. "South Paris, Maine." is printed to the right of the number in red, then "Residence of Hannibal Hamlin" is also printed in red. Just below these words are handwritten words in black which say "As it was in the 1800."

Dr. Cyrus Hamlin, Hannibal's father had the house built in 1806, and the family sold it in the 1860s. It was a farm until it was purchased by Kimball Atwood in the 1920s. He enlarged the house, removed the barn and ell and replaced them with a four-car garage and covered breezeway.

He also added porches along the north and south walls supported by large square columns. In the 1970s the house was sold to its present owners.
