Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) wrote his poem "The Rainy Day" in this room in his childhood home on Congress Street in Portland.

The room served as an office for his brother Alexander Longfellow in the 1840s and was converted for use as a summer dining room when he no longer needed it as an office.

The room looks out over the back garden.
