Image Info

The schooner M.M. Hamilton was a three-ton sloop built by Sylvester Stover at Stover's Cove, Harpswell, in 1869.

It was named for Mercy Melissa Henley Hamilton, wife of John Hamilton, who had the ship built.

It carried much of the granite from Maine quarries for the Washington Monument, the Chicago Auditorium and the Chicago Board of Trade Building.
